Ostara Tarot: Nine of Swords

I don’t know what it is to be a jaguar.

I imagine, that as an animal in the wild, finding yourself up against a group of foes with swords at your neck, would probably be the worst fate you could imagine.

This jaguar has sad eyes, the weight of this reality seems to sit heavy on its shoulders. Resignation. Fear. Sadness. Anxiety. A sense of doom.

At first glance, I thought this card’s illustration was too close to that of the Seven of Wands, but on second look, this jaguar does not appear to be in a state of defense, but rather of heavy exasperation.

When I think of the Nine of Swords, I often think of the state of rumination on an idea, that ultimately derails you. This jaguar could probably walk back up the other direction, and perhaps be free from ultimate doom; but sitting in the tree overnight, waiting for your enemies to leave- that’s a sleepless night if I’ve ever heard of one. If they even do. What then, if the anxiety is about a reality that we cannot escape? Ruminating on it doesn’t change it or fix it, so the only way to get through the situation, is to literally move through it. I think that is ultimately the message I am taking away from this particular Nine of Swords- sometimes the nightmare comes alive, and being anxious doesn’t do anything, resignation doesn’t either; moving forward toward the salvation of our self as best as we can. Even knowing that we risk certain death to certain ideals/relationships/understandings, sometimes we have to lift our chin up and do our best to get through it.

*I am working through every card without the use of the companion book, for my own knowledge and learning. These are my own thoughts on the cards, for any questions, always refer back to the creators own material. I will add to these as I move forward.
